The Herring Drifter LYDIA EVA Once there were hundreds of drifters which not only kept Britain in fish but also played a major part in two world wars as mine sweepers plus many other duties. Now there is only one left. Recently she has undergone much needed restoration and the attached photo shows her in steam at LOWESTOFT. It is hoped that visitors will be able to appreciate the valuable contribution she and her sisters made to Britain's commercial trade and war effort. Photo by In Depth Productions |

The photographs above and to the left are of the vessels employed in the surveying of SHERINGHAM SHOAL prior to the establishment of a wind farm. Top left shows the Jack up Rig SOUND PROSPECTOR which was towed to Great Yarmouth from Europe by the tug SOUND MASTER. The legs of the rig were carried aboard lying flat and on reaching Yarmouth they were craned into position. This operation was supported by the tug GRAY SALVOR of Harwich. Top right shows the SOUND PROSPECTOR jacked up in position off WELLS-next-the-SEA. The vessel was operating from the end of July to the end of October. . |
All crew changes took place from Wells using the Safety Boat Services vessels VANGUARD, TIGA and KIRKSPRAY.The row of photos immediately above show the survey vessel GEOFJORD on Sheringham Shoal carrying out site investigation. The CPT scope is visible on the portside of the ship. Shore management was carried out by In Depth Productions of Wells who carried out the logistics and supply operation. The photo to the left shows the SOUND PROSPECTOR back in Great Yarmouth for the removal of the jack-up legs prior to returning to Europe. All the photographs are supplied courtesy of IDP. |
